FIFA 12 Career Mode: One step away from Perfection

FIFA 12 Career Mode: One step away from Perfection

Career mode on FIFA just gets better every year and the current FIFA 12 version is exciting, inspiring and difficult to stop playing.

However, whilst it is a brilliant part of FIFA 12, there are long standing issues that need to be resolved in order to make it more than just amazing.

Firstly, although it has been improved since FIFA 11, the waiting time whilst the calendar advances can be tedious and if it can be shortened or just changed then it should be; surely there needn’t be any waiting; the next game in the season should just role on from the last in a couple of seconds or less. Perhaps the calendar could be replaced by something more interactive for the gamer.

Also, there is an issue with old players signing new contracts and then, just weeks later, they say that they are considering retiring at the end of the season. For example, I started a career mode with Tottenham Hotspur and the first thing that I wanted to do, was to tie down 40-year-old Brad Friedel to a new contract to ensure that he didn’t retire at the end of the season. He signed a new two year contract but I then received a message from him entitled ‘Considering Retiring’. At the time, I wasn’t sure what I had to do to make him stay on and he did retire at the end of that season.

Thirdly, although a small issue, some hardcore players may want it to be not like a game that leaves out the little details, but like real live football. When the Captain in a game gets subbed off, the player that he is replaced by is the new captain. However, if it is a young, inexperienced player then there is no chance in real football that he would become captain. In FIFA 12 however, there is no way of passing the captaincy on to another player already on the field, unlike in real football where they just give it to whoever they want to. In FIFA 13 therefore, when the captain gets subbed off, a message should appear, asking the user to whom they want the captaincy to pass to.

Finally, in FIFA 12 as in all previous versions, players get tired throughout the season and squad rotation is necessary. However, it usually works out that the same team can play two or three games in succession without the starting line-up being changed. The niggling issue is that suddenly, when a big game comes up against the top teams after one previous game against a small team, many of the players are suddenly fatigued. Therefore, fatigue should be more realistic in the next FIFA. Also, many top players play every or close to every game in the Premier League season and yet in FIFA 12, after maybe five games with generally a week between each of them, their stamina is significantly reduced if they start every match.

Overall, as you may have noticed, writing about problems in FIFA 12 Career Mode is like trying to find holes in a solid wall, there are very few, if any. FIFA 12 Career Mode is truly brilliant; it allows the user to become a football manager in almost every sense of the word and what’s more, they can do it with whatever team they like. FIFA 13 Career Mode will probably eliminate these tiny points for debate and will only further extend the dominance of the FIFA franchise worldwide.

FIFA 12 UEFA Euro 2012 Review

FIFA 12 UEFA Euro 2012 Review

So, Uefa Euro 2012 will be released shortly as a DLC and time will tell that if this move would be a sucessful one, or a horribly pear-shaped one for EA Sports.

Uefa Euro 2012 is split into 5 sections. The actual tournament itself, Euro 2012 specific challenges, Online, Kick Off and the all new expedition mode.

Euro 2012 Tournament
Much has been said been talked about the decision not to include the Qualifying stages in Uefa Euro 2012 with the game producer Sebastian Enrique stating that analysed the metrics and decided to leave it out because based on WC 2012 and Euro 08 data, they saw that many people skipped right passed these stages. It’s a big shame that even though percentage of people didn’t play this, they decided to not add this into Uefa Euro 2012 as like me and I’m sure a few others would love to participate in the qualifying stages.

The homepage of the tournaments is similar to a stripped down Career Mode homepage and very alike of World Cup 2010 as well, with statistic options and team management available on the left and there is the ability to cycle through the current group standing on the right. In the middle, you’ll see your next available fixture and the news panel, which will display things such as reactions to results and suspensions. A really nice touch is the implemention of simulation of fixtures played before your next match, which basically means you can quickly keep up with other teams progress in the tournament without having to dig back into the statistics menu. All fixtures are scheduled for the correct dates and times and match conditions perfectly reflect this.

FIFA 12 UEFA Euro 2012 ReviewUEFA Euro 2012 Review

The in game game-play feels exactly like Fifa 12, however the match atmosphere has been nailed to perfecto and you really feel the match atmosphere that you would experience in real world. The new and ‘improved’ commentary stands out, with frequent mentions to happenings elsewhere in the tournament as well as progress in previous games, golden boot and so on.

The stadiums themselves are, second to none. The official branding and advertising have been plastered on around each stadium and although it can look quite busy at time, I assuming the the whole tournament itself which feel this way too. The Uefa Euro 2012 trophy celebration will sure to disappoint many and I’d have expected some drastic change here, but sadly this release there isn’t any significant change. To sum it in a way really, it’s just FIFA 12 reskinned, for the tournament, with better commentary, updated kits and new stadiums, having said that, I’m very much looking forward in loading it up rocking it out again once the tournament kicks off. EA sports have brilliantly managed to capture the magic of international tournaments in these six matches and once everything goes into motion, I can only see it getting either more exciting.

FIFA 12 UEFA Euro 2012 ReviewFixture of UEFA Euro 2012

Expedition Mode
Uefa Euro 2012 expedition mode makes up the bulk of the DLC and it’s certainly the part which is going to demand most time investment should you set out to complete it. The whole concept is somewhere between Ultimate Team without the winning players model and control we saw introduced in FIFA Streets World Tour. You start with a shabby team and you tour Europe playing matches to make it better, fairly straightforward really, however it can turn quite messy.

On Your team, your captain can either be your Virtual Pro or a player of your choosing and once they’re confirmed you then need to select the rest of your squad. You’ll be given a mash-up of players rated around 49-59 from various nations which you can refresh as many times as you wish, however it’s very unlikely that it will make a blind bit of difference.

Team customisation options are quite thorough, with plenty of options to modify badges, modify your kits and so on, much like FIFA Street but without the possible option to unlock others further down as you progress. You can also revisit these options and make changes at any time you fancy doing so.

FIFA 12 UEFA Euro 2012 ReviewUEFA Euro 2012 Review

On Uefa Euro 2012, Nations are sorted by their qualifying groups, so once you’ve selected a starting point you begin by playing the teams that didn’t qualify. If you beat fellow nations, in return you get one of their players, the first time you beat a fellow nation you’re awarded a reserve player, the second time a substitute and third time you crack them, a first team player. The only downside of this is that you don’t get control over which player you get, however you can choose to reject them if you feel like doing so. The problem with rejecting players is that you might be looking to strengthen in the striking department but if you keep getting rewarded with defenders the idea of making your own winning team goes out of the window. Sadly, the possibility of hunting out the better players just by playing against better team isn’t available to you either because you need to beat the smaller nations in order to unlock the bigger nations.

Winning your matches also allows you to build pathways to other nations. You can’t play a team until you’ve built a pathway between them and somewhere else that you also have unlocked so usually you’ll be given the option at the end of a match to pick which path you want to open. Having said this, this doesn’t always goes to plan as sometimes your’re only given one pathway to open. If you lose a game then the pathway to that country is demolished and you’ll need to revisit other nations and beat them in other to get back on track. Every win (up to a total of three against each country) will unlock a photo from the tournaments history. Each photo counts as part of a mosaic you’re slowly building as you progress through the Expedition which I guess is the goal of the mode – to complete the mosaic. How likely that is though I’m not sure as there are a total of 180 pieces to collect.

Winning matches also allows you to build roads to other nations. You can’t play a team until you’ve built a road between them and somewhere else that you also have unlocked so usually you’ll be given the option at the end of a match to pick which path you want to open. It doesn’t always work however as sometimes you’re only given one road to open (which in my case was one I’d already opened, even though there were other locked paths within that group). If you lose a game then the road to that country is destroyed and you’ll need to revisit other nations and beat them to unlock it again. Every win (up to a total of three against each country) will unlock a photo from the tournaments history. Each photo counts as a piece of a mosaic you’re slowly building as you progress through the Expedition which I guess is the goal of the mode to complete the mosaic. How likely that is though I’m not sure as there are a total of 180 pieces to collect.

To make any progress on Uefa Euro 2012, you’re looking at a huge number of matches (over 150) and at the end of it, all you’ll have is a mosaic and a hodge podge team that you’ve had little to do with sculpting beyond choosing the teams to play against.

Uefa Euro 2012 Verdict
Worth buying will keep you preoccupied until Fifa 13 comes out.

FIFA Euro 2012 missing 24 licensed teams!

FIFA Euro 2012 missing 24 licensed teams!

FIFA Euro 2012 missing 24 licensed teams!

Football fans who eagerly downloaded the new UEFA Euro 2012 DLC pack for FIFA 12 were left dismayed upon its release last night, after discovering that many of the international teams are unlicensed.

The new content went up on PSN and Xbox Live Marketplace yesterday for £15.99 and 1,800 MS points respectively, promising to offer all 53 UEFA-member national teams and the eight official stadiums from the summer tournament.

However, it has now been revealed that only 29 of the 53 national teams are fully licensed, with the remaining squads sporting fake names and generic kits. The biggest omissions include Wales, Slovakia and, somewhat unbelievably, tournament co-hosts Ukraine.

For a franchise that has always prided itself on offering the fully-licensed “authentic” experience, this failure to get licenses for teams such as Estonia, Belarus and FYR Macedonia into the FIFA 12 expansion seems like a major oversight.

Responding to the furore, the publisher confirmed that the Euro 2012 expansion includes 24 generic teams, explaining that it wanted to have every national team officially licensed but was unable to make this happen.

“The inclusion of national teams is negotiated between EA and each national football association, which we need to license individually,” EA said.

“Licensing teams and leagues is a business decision based on market size and limited resources, and within these parameters, we were not able to negotiate an agreement with every football association to have their national team included within the game.”

This is not the only thing that fans are complaining about. The lack of a qualifying round for the tournament has also been met with consternation, while several players have complained on Twitter about their games freezing since the update.

For previous international tournaments, EA has chosen to publish full-RRP, disc-based versions of its FIFA series at retail. Initially, it received a positive reaction from football fans for its decision to offer Euro 2012 instead as a downloadable add-on. But it seems much of this good faith has now evaporated.

This is just the latest in a string of controversies surrounding the publisher’s major titles.

UEFA EURO 2012™ Expansion Pack Release Times

April 24th, 2012 1 comment

UEFA EURO 2012™ Expansion Pack Release Times

UEFA EURO 2012™ Expansion Pack Release Times

The UEFA EURO 2012™ digital expansion pack will be rolling out by these times:
• Origin: 8am UK time / 12am PDT
• Xbox 360: 2pm UK time / 6am PDT
• PS3: 4am UK time (April 25th) / 8pm PDT (April 24th)

To play the expansion you will need to download both a new patch for FIFA 12 (which will automatically download when you start the game) and the UEFA EURO 2012™ expansion pack. It can take a while for these two things to roll out globally, so we unfortunately cannot guarantee which download will be available first, but both are required to access the pack.

Those downloading the expansion around launch time may experience issues such as:
• Placeholder text in the in-game store menu
• Your UEFA EURO 2012™ download is infinitely stuck at “Pending” in your download queue.
• In the trial version of the UEFA EURO 2012™ expansion, the full version may appear as a “free” download. The full version download will then be stuck at “Pending” in your queue.

If your download is stuck in “Pending”, we suggest that you cancel the download, wait for about an hour, make sure the patch is downloaded, and then try downloading the expansion again.

NORTH AMERICAN PS3 OWNERS – Although the option to purchase the UEFA EURO 2012™ expansion may currently appear in the FIFA 12 main menu, it won’t be available to download until April 24th 8pm PST.
